Transport Manager

We're retained to find an exceptional Transport Manager for Securex, based in Uganda.

Securex Uganda is an established security services company providing technology-led security solutions to corporate, banking, NGO, diplomatic and individual clients. Its services include on-site security, emergency response, access control, video monitoring, perimeter security and fleet-management solutions, with operations across Uganda and the wider East African region.

Reliable transport is an important part of how Securex delivers its services. Teams across the business rely on vehicles being available, roadworthy and in the right place at the right time.

Securex is now looking for a transport manager to strengthen the day-to-day management of its fleet, with a particular focus on vehicle availability, maintenance, driver management and transport coordination.

About the Role

As transport manager, you will be responsible for keeping Securex Uganda’s fleet running reliably and supporting the teams that depend on it every day.

You will oversee vehicle deployment, maintenance and repairs, driver management, fuel controls, external service providers and the day-to-day issues that come with running a busy transport operation.

This is a practical, hands-on role. You will need to know what is happening across the fleet, spot problems early and make sure issues are followed through to resolution.

We’re looking for someone who is organised, responsive and comfortable making decisions in an operational environment where delays can quickly affect service delivery.

What you will be responsible for

1. Keep the fleet available

• Plan vehicle deployment around daily and upcoming operational needs.
• Keep an accurate view of which vehicles are available, in use, under repair or temporarily off the road.
• Plan ahead for possible vehicle shortages and put alternatives in place before they affect operations.
• Monitor how vehicles are being used and identify opportunities to improve utilisation.
• Reallocate vehicles quickly when priorities or operational requirements change.

2. Stay ahead of maintenance & breakdowns

• Maintain clear preventive servicing and maintenance schedules.
• Make sure vehicles remain roadworthy, reliable and compliant with the relevant requirements.
• Follow up closely on vehicles sent for service or repair and push for timely turnaround.
• Manage relationships with garages, mechanics and other maintenance providers.
• Keep an eye on recurring faults and make sure the underlying issue is addressed rather than repeatedly patched.
• Coordinate the response to breakdowns, accidents and other transport emergencies.

3. Lead the driver & transport team

• Manage and coordinate drivers and transport support staff.
• Make sure driver schedules and allocations match operational requirements.
• Set clear standards around punctuality, safety, vehicle care, conduct and professionalism.
• Coach team members and address performance concerns when they arise.
• Handle disciplinary matters fairly and consistently.
• Plan adequate driver cover for leave, absence and unexpected changes.

4. Control fuel, maintenance & fleet costs

• Monitor fuel issuance and consumption and follow up on unusual variances.
• Maintain strong controls around fuel, spare parts and vehicle use.
• Track servicing, repairs and other fleet-related expenditure.
• Work closely with Finance on spare parts, insurance matters and transport costs.
• Look for practical ways to manage costs without compromising safety or vehicle reliability.

5. Communicate, coordinate & follow through

• Keep fleet, maintenance, mileage, fuel, driver and incident records accurate and up to date.
• Provide timely updates on vehicle availability, repairs, costs and emerging risks.
• Stay close to Operations so transport needs are understood and planned for early.
• Raise significant issues before they become bigger problems and recommend a practical way forward.
• Follow up external providers and make sure agreed actions are completed.

Requirements

Experience

• At least 8 years of relevant experience in transport, fleet or logistics operations.
• Managed a sizable, operationally critical fleet, including vehicle availability, maintenance, deployment and breakdown response.
• Led drivers and transport support teams, with responsibility for scheduling, performance and discipline.
• Managed fuel usage, maintenance costs, spare parts and external garages or service providers.
• Worked in a transport-dependent environment such as logistics, FMCG, distribution, manufacturing, e-commerce, healthcare or another field-based operation.

This role is not for you if…

• You prefer to report problems rather than take ownership of resolving them.
• Most of your fleet experience has involved vehicles that were useful, but not critical to the day-to-day operation.
• Your approach to maintenance is mainly reactive.
• You are uncomfortable dealing with driver performance or difficult operational conversations.
• You prefer highly predictable environments where priorities rarely change.
• You are not comfortable responding when an urgent transport issue occasionally needs attention outside normal working hours.
