We're retained to find an exceptional Financial Controller for Premier Foods Limited, based in Nairobi, Kenya.

About the company

Premier Foods Limited is a Kenyan food manufacturing business with established consumer brands and ambitions for continued growth.

The business has been strengthening its systems, controls, governance and accountability and is now looking for a strong Financial Controller to help maintain that discipline as it grows.

About the Role

Your role is to make sure the financial story of the business is accurate, controlled and reflects what is actually happening operationally.

This is a hands-on manufacturing finance role. You will oversee core financial controls across reconciliations, payables, receivables, cash flow, tax and the balance sheet, while staying close to what is happening within the plant.

You will need to understand how raw materials, production costs, utilities, labour, sales and cash ultimately flow through the financial records.

Premier Foods is looking for someone who already has these fundamentals and can strengthen the environment rather than needing to learn them after joining.

What you will be responsible for

Keep the numbers accurate

  • Own reconciliations across payables, receivables, GRNI and the balance sheet
  • Maintain strong controls around financial records and transactions
  • Strengthen month-end and ongoing financial-control disciplines
  • Identify and resolve control gaps quickly

Stay close to cash and working capital

  • Monitor cash flow, receivables and DSO
  • Strengthen collections and customer reconciliations
  • Support banking and day-to-day cash-management requirements
  • Maintain strong VAT, tax and other compliance disciplines

Understand the plant economics

  • Understand raw-material costs from purchasing through production
  • Track plant expenses including utilities, labour and other operating costs
  • Work closely with operations to understand cost and margin movements
  • Be comfortable going onto the manufacturing floor when needed

Help strengthen the finance function

  • Work closely with the Head of Finance and the wider finance team
  • Improve controls and processes where gaps exist
  • Progressively build deeper exposure to costing
  • Over time, support broader initiatives including expansion, acquisitions or joint ventures

How you show up

You are someone who:

  • Is hands-on and comfortable getting into the detail
  • Has strong attention to accuracy and follows issues through
  • Can operate effectively even when systems are still being improved
  • Is resilient, agile and accountable
  • Understands that finance needs to stay close to operations, not operate in isolation

Your strong foundation

You will bring:

  • Strong financial-control experience within manufacturing, ideally food or FMCG
  • Practical exposure to plant costs, raw materials and manufacturing expenses
  • Strong knowledge of reconciliations, payables, receivables, balance sheets and cash flow
  • Experience with VAT, tax compliance and banking
  • Good working knowledge of ERP systems
  • Experience strengthening controls or processes within a hands-on business

Or you may not have held the Financial Controller title. You could be a Finance Manager, Finance & Cost Manager or similar professional who has owned these responsibilities in a manufacturing environment.

This role may not be for you if…

  • Your experience has mainly been within highly specialised multinational finance teams
  • You have limited exposure to manufacturing or plant costs
  • You prefer reviewing reports rather than getting involved in the underlying numbers
  • You need fully established systems and processes to perform well

What’s in it for you

You will join Premier Foods at a point where the business is strengthening its foundations and preparing for its next stage of growth.

The role gives you broad ownership across financial control, exposure to manufacturing economics and the opportunity to progressively build into broader finance responsibilities.
