We're retained to find an exceptional Account Manager for Urban Farmer Livestock Solutions, based in Kenya.
About Urban Farmer
Urban Farmer Livestock Solutions Limited is the Kenyan subsidiary of Urban Farmer, a South African business focused on supporting competitive poultry and livestock production across Africa through nutritional products, technical expertise and customer support.
The Kenyan business is growing, with an expanding base of feed millers, farms and other livestock-sector customers. As the customer portfolio grows, Urban Farmer wants to maintain the quality and consistency of its technical and commercial support while continuing to develop new business.
Urban Farmer is now hiring an Account Manager who can combine strong customer relationship management, commercial drive and practical animal nutrition knowledge to support this next stage of growth
About the Role
This is a field-based technical and commercial account management role.
You will take ownership of an established customer portfolio, primarily working with feed millers and farms that mix their own feed, while also identifying and developing new business opportunities across Kenya.
You will need to understand more than what the customer buys. You should be able to walk into their operation, understand their nutritional needs, recognise broader issues around health, hygiene, biosecurity and management, and recommend practical solutions.
At the same time, you will be commercially accountable - building relationships, identifying opportunities, qualifying prospects and progressing business.
You will report to the Country Manager and work closely with Urban Farmer’s nutrition and commercial teams.
Responsibilities
1. Manage & Grow Customer Accounts
- Take ownership of an allocated portfolio of existing customers.
- Maintain regular field contact and build trusted, long-term relationships.
- Understand each customer’s operation, technical needs and commercial potential.
- Identify opportunities to grow the use of Urban Farmer’s nutritional solutions.
2. Develop New Business
- Identify and approach prospective feed millers, farms and other relevant customers.
- Understand how prospects operate and where Urban Farmer can add value.
- Present appropriate nutritional solutions and clearly communicate their value.
- Maintain disciplined follow-up from first conversation through to conversion.
3. Provide Technical Customer Support
- Apply your animal nutrition knowledge to understand customer requirements.
- Advise customers on nutrition and related considerations including health, hygiene, biosecurity and general management.
- Identify practical areas for improvement and recommend appropriate next steps.
- Work with Urban Farmer’s technical team where specialist support is required.
4. Drive Commercial Execution
- Maintain accurate records of customers, prospects, transactions and technical queries.
- Keep customer and sales activity updated within the CRM and internal systems.
- Provide clear commercial and field updates to the Country Manager.
- Coordinate customer visits, meetings and follow-up activities.
5. Work as Part of a Small, Hands-On Team
- Collaborate closely with commercial, technical and operational colleagues.
- Take ownership of issues and follow them through to resolution.
- Adapt quickly as customer and business priorities change.
- Support wider day-to-day activities when required.
Requirements
Experience
- At least 3 years’ relevant industry experience.
- A B.Sc. in Animal Science, Agriculture or a related qualification.
- Experience working with farmers, feed millers or livestock-production customers.
- Experience selling feed additives, finished feed, nutritional products or similar technical solutions is strongly preferred.
- Experience managing customer relationships alongside new-business development.
- A valid driving licence and willingness to travel regularly across Kenya.
Technical Capability
- Strong practical understanding of animal nutrition and nutritional solutions.
- Broad awareness of livestock production, including health, hygiene, biosecurity and management.
- Ability to assess a customer’s operation and identify areas for improvement.
- Ability to translate technical information into practical customer recommendations.
- Exposure to feed-formulation software such as Bestmix, Format or similar systems is an advantage.
Commercial Capability
- Strong account-management and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence prospecting, pitching and developing new customers.
- Good judgement when qualifying commercial opportunities.
- Ability to balance customer support with sales and growth objectives.
- Consistent follow-through and pipeline discipline.
Communication & Systems
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills.
- Previous CRM exposure is an advantage, but the ability to learn new systems quickly is more important.
How You Show Up
You are a technically credible, commercially minded professional who:
- Enjoys being in the field and close to customers.
- Understands the customer before recommending a product.
- Can move comfortably between technical and commercial conversations.
- Builds trust through consistency, responsiveness and follow-through.
- Takes ownership and works independently.
- Is curious, practical and willing to keep learning.
This Role Is Not for You If…
- You want a predominantly desk-based role.
- You are comfortable selling products but cannot confidently discuss animal nutrition.
- You prefer purely technical work and do not enjoy commercial conversations.
- You are uncomfortable prospecting for new business.
- Regular travel and customer visits do not suit the way you want to work.
Why Join Urban Farmer
- Join a growing African livestock-nutrition business with an expanding Kenyan customer base.
- Take meaningful ownership of customer relationships and business growth.
- Use your technical knowledge directly with customers rather than working only behind the scenes.
- Work closely with experienced commercial and nutrition professionals.
- Build broader experience across animal nutrition, account management and business development.
- Have a visible impact on the continued growth of Urban Farmer’s Kenyan business.
